The 2018/19 Tree Planting Season was launched at Malingunde Primary School in Lilongwe on 15th December, 2018 by President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika; and close to 60 million trees have been planted since the launch.

The Division is responsible for facilitating the integration of environmental considerations into public and private sector projects, programs and plans through the use of environmental assessment and environmental auditing. Specifically, the Division:

     Administers the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process as outlined in the Environment Management Act {EMA), 1996;

     Advises developers on the EIA requirements that are applicable in Malawi;

     Reviews EIA reports,

     Issues EIA certificates

     Monitors projects for compliance to EIA approval conditions.

     Conducts      environmental       inspections      to     ensure    compliance      to environmental quality standards and

     Regulates the management of waste in the country.

This idone through the Technical Committee on the Environment (TCE) and the National Council for the Environment (NCE) which is structures

Set up under the Act to provide advice and guidance on environmental matters.
